March 2014

My only overseas trip this month is not until the last weekend of March, which is just as well with so many events and meetings in London these last few weeks – plus a totally unexpected and highly emotional surprise….BA.com/visitsoon         My working month began on the 3rd, with the TravMedia International Media Marketplace (IMM) held in the ballroom of the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane. With more travel brands exhibiting than last year, the stands filled two large rooms. IMM offers an opportunity to meet travel companies from around the world in a more intimate setting than at World Travel Market (WTM) and also to network with media colleagues. It provides an important  link between the media and the travel trade and is a useful source of feature ideas. Less exhausting and stressful than...

Glorious summer

Posted by on Jul 29, 2013 in UK Spas and Travel | 0 comments

Summer at last and so much to celebrate – Andy Murray’s Wimbledon victory, a new royal baby and a continuous run of gloriously sunny days and soaring temperatures – almost unheard of in the UK! Waking up to blue skies every morning is a treat – even if it does get extremely hot later in the day. . . but I’m not complaining! I’m continuing to make good progress after my op. Until I can resume my travels, I’m posting spa reviews by Spa Wellbeing contributors instead. This first one is by Sarah Dawson and is her account of a Sodashi treatment at the Four Seasons Hotel Spa in rural Hampshire, when Sarah also met Megan Larsen, the brand’s inspirational creator.   Sodashi is the creation of Megan Larsen, a former beauty therapist from New Zealand who moved...

A New Spa for Guildford

Posted by on Jun 22, 2012 in UK Spas and Travel | 0 comments

Having been tied to my computer since my trip to Sydney, I took a few hours off yesterday to attend the launch of  ESPA’s new spa – The Spa at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Guildford. The smart new hotel opened last year and is a much needed asset to the city.  Sue Harmsworth, MBE, ESPA’s visionary founder, lives in Guildford, so after 20 years of creating exquisite spas, treatments and products, Sue finally has an ESPA spa on her own doorstep. As we sipped champagne cocktails and savoured delicious canapés, Sue explained that despite ESPA’s international success, the globally-renowned spa brand is an essentially ‘all British’ family enterprise; both her sons are actively involved in the business and the products are manufactured in Somerset. ESPA’s  impressive portfolio of award-winning lifestyle spas includes spas at leading 5-star hotels and...

Massage Away

Can’t believe it’s already the 9th May! Such a busy few weeks and so many celebrations:  Alec’s special birthday, Jonathan completing his first London Marathon, Easter and a royal wedding. Throw in all the bank holidays, the wonderful weather and gardens in bloom, no wonder we are all feeling happier with life. Visited W today, one of London’s most exciting new hotels for a treatment in its Away Spa. The hotel, which opened earlier this year, is situated just off Leicester Square in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Soho. You can’t miss the entrance with its huge W logo and once inside you take a lift to the main reception where there are several individual desks. Staff all very helpful and enthusiastic. The receptionist left his desk and went with me in the lift to...

Park Lane’s New Star

Posted by on Mar 2, 2011 in UK Spas and Travel | 0 comments

I was invited to preview the rooftop spa at the newly opened Four Seasons Hotel on Park Lane in Mayfair this week. This superb new amenity is on the hotel’s top 10th floor and enjoys panoramic views over Hyde Park, Park Lane and central London. Architect Eric Parry’s sleek and contemporary design is a pleasing combination of dark oak, glass walls, light stone floors and sensual curves, which creates a flowing and airy environment. There are with nine treatment rooms including an ultra-luxurious double suite with 180° views, and all have individual relaxation pods where guests can flop out in privacy after their treatments  – a winning idea all spas should take up! Guests can order refreshments and spa lunches, which are served in the chic 10th floor lounge, where floor to ceiling windows open out onto an attractive...
