Staying put…..

No overseas trips this month – just some interesting press meetings and catching on my work backlog.

The February APRO event, sponsored by Korean Air was held in the auspicious surroundings of the British Museum. It was good meeting up with journalist friends and airline representatives over wine and canapés and afterwards we enjoyed a private viewing of the museum’s current exhibition – Ice Age art – arrival of the modern mind.

This exhibition features the world’s oldest known sculptures, drawings and portraits with many of the pieces are made from mammoth (now extinct) ivory and reindeer antler. Created by artists between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago, the exhibits include Venus of Lespugue (France), a 23,000-year-old figurine discovered in a cave in 1922. Just 150mm tall, the figure’s exaggerated nude form is said to have fascinated Picasso and influenced his 1930s sculptural works.

Described as ‘Ice Age Modern Art, this absorbing exhibition proves that creativity and expression have remained remarkably similar across thousands of years.
