Sunshine, blue skies, and the scent of orange blossom - the lovely month of April in Xabia on the beautiful Costa Blanca.

Springtime in Spain

April is a wonderful month for visiting Spain. The days are lengthening and become warmer and nature is looking her best.

Here in Xabia (Javea),  the streets are lined with flowering trees and the surrounding orange groves are smothered in blossom, scenting the air in fragrant drifts carried on the breeze. The mornings are warm, sunny and uplifting – perfect for taking a stroll or working in the garden. Even our three little orange trees are covered in white flowers, despite the lack of rain over the Costa Blanca’s dry mild winter. I’m making up for the drought by giving them a good soaking with the hosepipe every other day. Just hope they’ll  survive until Alec visits again in May and repairs the irrigation system, which inconveniently developed a fault just as we were leaving.

While a swim in the Med is only for the brave or those wearing wetsuits at this time of year, the weather is warm enough to enjoy breakfast and lunch outside in the sunshine.  It seems that the UK’s declining sparrow population has taken up residence here in Spain – where these little birds boldly pick up crumbs and titbits at afresco restaurants.

Morning View Granadella, Xabia

The Marina Alta coast is particularly beautiful at this time of year, especially in the mornings when the sea appears  like a sheet of mirrored glass against the cloudless blue skies.
